Fourth of July Weekend

We had fun over the 4th weekend! Mimi and Papi drove down to spend some time with Owen and Mason, as well as Uncle Kyle before his big trip to Ecuador on the 5th. We all met in Austin on Lake Travis where my parents have a boat. We enjoyed a hot day on the lake on the 3rd swimming, relaxing, drinking margaritas, playing watermelon goose in the water, grilling on the boat grill, taking an evening drive to see a fireworks show, and a night drive back to the marina. Why are night drives so fun? We got up on the 4th and had our rain-checked Father's Day lunch since all the dads were together. Afterwards, we headed back to Houston in time to enjoy a low key evening of s'mores and sparkly sparklers. Uncle Kyle headed out early the next morning for his big trip to Ecuador with Manda. The weekend was fun, both sets of grandparents are always a hit with the boys!

July 4th Weekend

My favorite thing they say...

Of all the mispronunciations that two year olds make, this one takes the cake. The boys have favorite blankies, and Owen has taken to the little version. He refers to it as "little" but pronounces it "wiggle," and he draws out the "i" sound. Mason pronounces it "liggle." And it doesn't just apply to the blankies. Anything that is little is "wiiiiggle" or "liiiiggle." I just love it and am sad for the day they wake up and pronounce is correctly. Here's a video of them telling me if something is big or little. Yes, impressive that they can discriminate, but I really took the video just to make them say "little."

Long Lost May Pictures

Oh boy! We are behind on sharing some pics! These are out of order, seeing as how we've already posted Father's Day a while back, but better late than never!

One week after Owen and Mason turned 2, their cousin Julian had his 3rd birthday party in Austin. We made the trip and combined the weekend with seeing RENT. Julian is very into things with wheels which suited Owen and Mason just fine. We rode the Zilker Zephyer and spent the afternoon back at Julian's house. It's always great getting our kids together. Julian's mom and Aunt Tera are my 1st cousins and my sister and I grew up going to their parties and them coming to ours. It's a tradition we're determined to continue.

A week or so later, Uncle Kyle and Aunt Manda came to visit. Kyle and Manda had fun acting like kids at Stomping Grounds with Owen and Mason. And of course, Owen and Mason think they are pretty cool for it, too. We are super excited for Wednesday because Kyle and Manda are coming to visit again. This time, they're returning from 6 weeks in Ecuador. We will be very happy to have them back safe and sound. If you're interested in their trip and some great pictures, check out Manda's blog: Leave No Stone Unturned

Keep checking back. I promise we'll do better at keeping up with blogging!

80's Babies?

These pictures were taken a while back and somehow got lost in the mounds of other pictures we take. The boys are sporting some cool skates they got for their birthday. Something about these pictures scream 1980-something. I think it's the combination of the clunky skates, the short "shorts," and the old school prints on the shirts. Every time I see these pictures, I crack up! And yes, my kids are still slobber machines! Mason's in gray, Owen in red.

Comedy Geniuses

This is one of those cases where the senses of humor of two year olds and myself intersect. Mason and Owen get silly right before bedtime and play with their mat and their pirate cave.

Bee Turns 90!

We've been on the road most of this week, and our first stop was San Marcos, TX, where we threw a surprise party for Owen and Mason's Great-Great Aunt Bee. She's the sister of Erin's Grandmother and has always been like another grandmother to her. This year, Bee hit the 90-year milestone, which is quite an accomplishment. Even better though is the way she's kept in great health - body, mind, and spirit. She's as sharp as anyone you'll meet, regardless of age, and she is a continual reminder of how we'd all like to live our lives, where we keep things in perspective and where we're always ready for another adventure.

Happy Birthday, Bee!
