Fraternal or Identical?

---- COPY OF TEST RESULTS #15057-070806 ----

We are pleased to report to you the results of the twin zygosity test that you requested. Analysis of the DNA indicates that Owen Russell Crews and Mason Kyle Crews are monozygotic, or more commonly referred to as identical twins.

We first isolated DNA from cheek cells from the swab kits that were returned to our lab. We amplified the DNA using a technique called PCR. Next, we analyzed 7-8 standard DNA markers (D5S818, D13S317, D7S820, D16S539, vWA, TH01, TPOX, and CSF1PO) and determined that the highly variable DNA markers were the same for both twins. Thus, there is greater than a 99% probability that the twins are monozygotic.

So there you have it, identical twins (I was hoping they would be)! Good thing no real money was at stake in this bet because no one expected it (except Mommy, Grandaddy, and Manda)!

Week 15

This week has been pretty eventful! Owen has started to realize he is in water when he takes a bath. He purposefully kicks his legs and moves his arms around to feel the water splash! It is so funny! He even got to go for a swim in the baby pool at Aaron's company picnic. Of course, he loved that too!

Mason has become quite the talker this week. When we talk to him he smiles and makes squeaks, sighs, and consonant sounds like la, guh, and da. He will have a "conversation" with you for 5-10 minutes, although everytime we pull out the video camera he stops talking!

Granna, Grandaddy, Aunt Lindsay, and Great Numna came to visit this weekend. They really enjoyed the babies and couldn't believe how much they have changed! This was the first time Numna had seen them since they started smiling and laughing. What a treat!

Week 15 is still in progress so there will be more pictures to add later in the week. In the mean time, enjoy the first of the week 15 pictures!

Hooray for sleep!

How could I forget? Owen and Mason have started sleeping through the night! This first happened a few weeks ago but I thought it must have been a fluke. Since then, they have consistently slept for at least 6 hours in a row. The most amazing part about the whole thing is that they both started sleeping longer on the exact same night. We have talked to several twin moms who have said that one of their's started sleeping longer months before the other one. We are so lucky to have such awesome babies!

Week 14

Mason and Owen turned 3 months old on Friday. We took the boys to see Mimi and Papi during their Houston layover on their way back from Greece. They got to ride in their new "big boy" stroller, facing each other! Only problem is that they haven't quite noticed each other yet. They made eye contact with each other for the first time on Sunday night. It was pretty exciting! Let the games begin! Daddy has been playing with Owen and Mason in their toadstool seats. They really seem to enjoy sitting up.

We had them weighed today to see how they are progressing. Mason came in at 14 lbs. 9 oz. and 24 inches long. Owen weighs 14 lbs. 12 oz. and is 23.5 inches long.

Most importantly, we sent off their twin zygosity test today. We should know by the end of August whether they are identical or fraternal twins. Any bets?
